It was an exciting weekend for NY Elite alumni women soccer players who are now playing in college.
Meghan Cavanaugh’s #14 nationally ranked University of South Florida team continued their season-long undefeated streak by winning the American Athletic Conference (AAC) Championship. Meghan, a starting midfielder, scored in the championship game. USF advances to the upcoming NCAA tournament with first round opponent Central Connecticut State, to be played in the Cary, NC area at the end of the month.
On Friday, April 16, Siena won the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) championship with Carrie (Pips) Krohn leading the way as a starting forward who scored a goal and an assist in the MAAC semi-finals. Siena will also be moving on the NCAA tournament and face Arizona State in the first round.
Tanya Leggiero and Jada Brown (Saint Rose) hosted Erica Wasserbach (Captain) and Dani Casey (LeMoyne) in a spring season game at Saint Rose. Erica scored a beautiful upper 90 goal from 30 yards out to tie the game 1-1 at half time. Tanya scored the game winning goal in the second half on an individual effort, dribbling by two defenders and scoring a far post goal. First year LeMoyne central defender Dani played very well for all 90 minutes. First year player Jada, was dangerous during the entire game as an overlapping Saint Rose defender.
Meghan and Tanya are both former Section 2 Players of the Year. All six players were former All State High School Players.
